MENORAH PARADE FAQ's
1) How is this going to work with the annual big McCaffrey's Chanukah dinner and celebration at the Glazier Jewish Center which has been publicized?
The parade is a lead up to the grand party which will follow immediately afterwards inside the Glazier Jewish Center. See Q&A number 4.
(For more information about the dinner and celebration, please refer to MIGHTof LIGHT.com home page)
2) How is the parade going to work?
There will be a group of cars meeting at our Shul in Yardley at 4:30pm. A second group of cars will meet at the Dunkin Donuts in Richboro at 4:30 pm.
Each of these groups will make their way to the southern edge of Newtown Boro (in the parking lot across the street of the B&P gas station) where a procession will begin at 5:40 pm, led by a horse and buggy menorah arriving at our grand Chanukah celebration at our center in Newtown, at 6:00 pm.
There will then be a public menorah lighting and everyone will be welcomed to participate for the party and show inside the center.
3) Who can participate in the parade?
For the event: Anyone who would like to watch the parade along State Street and then join for the menorah lighting and party at the Glazier Jewish Center.
For the procession: Anyone who is willing to display a special car menorah on the rooftop of their car.
4) What if I am not placing a menorah on my car?
You will play an important role by being one of the parade "greeters", welcoming the Menorah caravan to the center for the grand menorah lighting. Whether you are a "driver" or "greeter" it will be an unbelievable experience.
5) When should I order mine?
Because of our limited availability of menorahs, there are only a few left. Please order ASAP.
The deadline to order is Sunday evening, December 14th.
6) Are there any other parades in the area for me to participate in? Especially if I can't make this one?
Yes. There is going to be a different parade in Center City Philadelphia a few night earlier with close to 100 cars. Since you have your menorah you can join there as well.
The Philly parade begins on Motzaei Shabbat (Saturday Night) December 20th, 7pm at Eakins Oval in front of the Art Museum, going throughout Center City. It will end with the Grand Menorah Lighting of the Giant Menorah at 5th and Market with live music, hot latkes, tzufganiot, and surprises.
7) Is there a fee related with this?
The cost to us per menorah is $90 a piece. We ask that those participating in the parade help in the cost and they can keep the menorah from year to year.
8) How do I order one?
If you would like to participate in the parade, the menorahs are available for purchase through contacting Rabbi Mendel Prus at [email protected], or call 215.497.9925.
PLEASE NOTE: Exact parade and route details will be provided once we receive your request to participate in the menorah parade.
These events promise to provide a very exciting evening and display of Jewish pride, and an experience that will be indelibly etched into the minds of our children, neighbors and Jewish people throughout the County.
