Rabbi Levi Shmotkin is a Chasidic scholar based in Brooklyn N.Y. He has led immersive classes in Jewish mysticism in Los Angeles and Jerusalem, and has written several courses on the Rebbe’s thought that have been studied by tens of thousands worldwide. Letters for Life is his first book.

This question concerns only me. But I welcome any comments that help clarify it.
In my youth, I committed an offense that turned my life upside down, not immediately afterward, but years later. As a consequence of that offense, the Mexican government provides me with my daily bread. I have been in this situation for more than fifty years, ten more than the Jewish people spent wandering in the desert.

If my offense offends God and man, why does God continue to foster this situation?

Possible answers:
So that I and the Mexican government realize that charity produces conscious people instead of unconscious automatons.
So that the Mexican government stands out as a social protector and healer of the mentally disturbed.
So that I realize that my healing did not require, and possibly will never require, penance or testimony before any court.
