The Torah is the most precious article in Jewish life. Its timeless lessons have carried us through our 3,300 year history and in times of need, prayers are offered in its presence. A highly trained scribe in Israel has been commissioned to handwrite a Torah for the physical and spiritual benefit of our community. A ceremony will be held with a scribe who will begin this year-long process by putting quill to parchment to write the initial letters of Our Community Torah. By witnessing the creation of this Torah you will have a lifelong remembrance.

At Lubavitch of Bucks County we believe that every Jew is essential. In our tradition, the Jewish People are likened to the letters of the Torah. No letter is more important than another. All the letters of the Holy Torah are interdependent, for without even one letter, the entire Torah is rendered incomplete. Similarly, each and every Jew is a vital link in the unbreakable and everlasting chain that is the Jewish people. With even a single link missing, we are not whole; only together we are complete.

Link yourself with the Jewish community by participating in the writing of OUR COMMUNITY TORAH.. Each part of the Torah – letters, words, sentences, and Torah portions can be dedicated in honor or in memory of your loved ones. In making this contribution, you will be participating in this incredible Mitzvah and honor of writing a Sefer Torah, and whenever it is read and learned from, your commitment to Judaism and the Jewish faith will be remembered. Let’s write history together!

The very last of the 613 mitzvot is to write a Torah scroll

And now write for you this song…. Deutoronomy. 31:19 ועתה כתבו לכם את השירה הזאת (דברים לא: יט

“Every person is to write a scroll of the Torah for himself. If he writes it with his own hand, Scripture considers it as if he had received it from Mount Sinai. If he cannot write it himself, he is obliged to purchase one, or to hire a scribe who will write it for him. By endowing even a single letter, word, or sentence for yourself, it is as if you have written your own Torah scroll. ”
