Chanukah Insights

Overheard @ the Center
After the
Bucks County Chanukah Parade

Dear Rabbi Prus,

"Thank you so much for letting us be a part of the parade and being a proud Jew.

I was just reading books how jews were paraded to their death and here we can parade and show that I'm a proud Jew. It meant a lot to me."

Haim V., Richboro

Nosh For The Soul

"Let here be light!"

This initial statement is rather the mandate of all Creation. The ultimate goal and purpose of creation is that the Divine Light shine throughout the world, transforming everything, even darkness itself, so that it, too, will shine.

From the teachings of the
Rebbe; rendered by Tzvi Freeman

The Week

Sayings of the Jewish Buddhist

If there is no self, whose arthritis is this?

Be here now. Be someplace else later. Is that so complicated?

Drink tea and nourish life; with the first sip, joy; with the second sip, satisfaction; with the third sip, peace; with the fourth, a Danish.

Wherever you go, there you are. Your luggage is another story.

Accept misfortune as a blessing. Do not wish for perfect health, or a life without problems. What would you talk about?

The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single Oy.

There is no escaping karma. In a previous life, you never called, you never wrote, you never visited. And whose fault was that?

Zen is not easy. It takes effort to attain nothingness. And then what do you have? Bupkis.

The Tao does not speak. The Tao does not blame. The Tao does not take sides. The Tao has no expectations. The Tao demands nothing of others. The Tao is not Jewish.

Breathe in. Breathe out. Breathe in. Breathe out. Forget this and  attaining Enlightenment will be the least of your problems.

Deep inside you are ten thousand flowers. Each flower blossoms ten thousand times. Each blossom has ten thousand petals. You might want to see a specialist.

Be aware of your body. Be aware of your perceptions. Keep in mind that not every physical sensation is a symptom of a terminal illness.

RU-ACH!!!

Just a few days ago Lubavitch of Bucks County kicked off its Chanukah celebrations with a magnificent Chanukah Menorah Car parade followed by a great indoor celebration in the Pozez Social Hall of our center in Newtown, attended by over 500 women, men and children!

Yes, there were the traditional latkes Chanukah music, gelt, dreidels etc. Yet, I was searching for the word that truly captured the unique feeling which one felt seeing old friends and MANY NEW ones. This morning, a friend of ours called and said it was such good ruach there.

Bingo. That was the word.

Ruach (pronounced roo-ach) is another word like chutzpah, which is hard to define or describe but you know it when you experience it.
Ruach means: Everyone is joyful

Ruach
means: There is only positive energy in the room.
Ruach means: There is only happiness.
Ruach means: 500 Jewish people, affiliated and un affiliated, from all walks of life and religious backgrounds sitting together and enjoying the celebration: The celebration of Chanukah; the celebration of our Jewishness;  the celebration of our unity.

This is what we strive to be: Not a synagogue for a particular affiliation. Not a gym for a physical workout. We strive and have built a space where every Jewish soul can be ignited on its special level so they can explore God and their spirituality at their pace.

Every so often (and more often than not) you feel what you have worked for. This Chanukah was another "Joyful Ruach" moment at Lubavitch of Bucks County.

Have a wonderful Shabbat and enjoyable Chanukah,

Rabbi Yehuda Shemtov
Executive Director

Hundreds of toys were packed by our Bat Mitzvah Club and delivered to needy children though out the holiday of Chanukah. The Bat Mitzvah Club, formed to transform the Bat Mitzvah training into a fun, engaging and meaningful experience attracts many girls from all denominations and unites with a feeling of unity and the broader community in terms of spiritual affiliation and socio-economic levels.

A Personal Letter

Chanukah Gelt

There is a tradition of giving Chanukah Gelt on this great holiday. As the programming and numbers keeps growing, we are trying very hard to meet the needs of the community. the gelt giving season of Chanukahbegins.

Here are some of the actual numbers which tell the story.

Supplementary Jewish Education for children doubled over the last two years. Our Aleph Bet Hebrew School program now teaches over 160 children. Arguably the largest non -synagogue religious school in the Delaware Valley.

Gan Izzy Day Camp attendance skyrocketed to 120 children in just two seasons.

Our Friendship Circle department for special needs children doubled over the last few years. Over 100 families are being impacted by this great program.

Our Jewish Learning Academy department for adult education is at its highest enrollment to date.

All other divisions AURA women's league, our community synagogues and Youth Zone clubs continue to expand rapidly.

All this rapid growth is filling  a very critical need for our Jewish community. It is becoming increasingly harder to keep up with the financial responsibilities that come along. We need everyone's help. No gift is to small. Please consider us as the tax-year comes to a close and

I have a little dreidel, I made it out of . .

We  all remember singing this as children, but through the years the list of material has grown. We offer you these lyrics to bring to your chanukah parties this weekend. Enjoy.

I have a little dreidelI made it out of wood And when I spin my dreidel I always feel so good

I have a little dreidelI made it out of bread It looked so very yummy I ate it up instead

I have a little dreidelI made it out of snow But when I looked last summer Where did my dreidel go?

I have a little dreidelI made it out of glass, My mom says I can spin it, But only on the grass!

I have a little dreidel, It’s made out of a shoe, It smells a little funny, But what can you do?

I have a little dreidel, I made it out of fur, It was warm and cuddly, And the spinning made it purr!

I have a little dreidel, I made it out of snow I baked it in the oven... Where'd my dreidel go?

I have a little dreidel, I carved it from a log And when I threw it on the floor it nearly killed the dog

I have a little dreidel, I made it out of plastic I put a gimel on every side, that dreidel is fantastic!

I have a little dreidel, I made it out of soap I carved a shin on every side, why am I such a dope?

I have a little dreidelI made it out of soap I put it in the bathtub To see if it would float
