'Just so important': Chabad House Palm Beach hosts bat mitzvah celebration for four women

A Jewish congregation in Palm Beach hosted a bat mitzvah ceremony last month for four women who did not celebrate as teenagers. Chabad House Palm Beach held its second bat mitzvah milestone celebration for congregants on March 26 at The Colony. The event included a recitation of a chapter of Psalms, an address from Rabbi Zalman Levitin, speeches from the women, and a video presentation. All four women took an eight-week course taught by Chabad House Palm Beach director of programming Hindel Levitin in preparation for their bat mitzvah milestone ceremony.

Chabad Madison hosts ribbon-cutting as new space opens on Monroe Street

The Jewish community gathered Sunday along Monroe Street to dedicate and celebrate the opening of a new Jewish center in Madison. Leaders of Chabad Madison opened the doors of the new space welcoming dozens of people inside. The new building hosts a synagogue and social hall, Kosher commercial kitchen, library, teen lounge, classrooms and offices. “Together, for 45 years, we built a community,” said Rabbi Avremel Matusof. “Together we are excited to see what opportunities this new space will afford us.”

Fresh out of rabbinical school in Australia, Hecht said he came to the Elm City with a “dream of doing Jewish outreach at Yale.” Raised within the framework of the Chabad-Lubavitch movement — a branch of Orthodox Judaism that champions outreach to all Jews, regardless of religious observance — Hecht said he arrived with a vision of creating a “leadership society” with a “strong Jewish anchor.”

4,200 Jewish kids. That’s how many students participated in the 2025 JewQ International Torah Championship, the game show-style competition where students from around the world are quizzed about Jewish holidays, mitzvot, prayer and more. The Chabad of Palm Beach Gardens brought together a team of students to study Torah and learn what it really means to be Jewish, and they ended up leaving the competition with two gold medals, four silver, one bronze — and one world champion.

With the second leg of Arsenal’s Champions League quarter-final coinciding with Passover and no local kosher restaurants open, supporters group Jewish Gooners contacted Rabbi Zalman Goldstein of Chabad Madrid, who opened his doors specially to the travelling supporters. Rabbi Goldstein added: “When I heard there was a big game in Madrid with lots of travelling Jewish fans from London, I was delighted to help. And I’m even more delighted to now be an honorary Jewish Gooner!”

Point cafe employs adults with disabilities

Shira Miller, 28, has been working at the Friendship Circle Cafe and Bakery in Fox Point since it opened in 2019. The cafe is part of a nonprofit, Friendship Circle of Wisconsin, focused on helping people with disabilities. So far, Levi Stein, president of the organization, says about 50 adults with disabilities have gone through the program. "It's the learning about where their skill set lies and how they can thrive in an environment that's fit right for them," Stein said. "It makes it all worth it. I'm doing it because the impact."

Model matzah bakery brings Pesach to life

Over 1300 children across Sydney recently rolled up their sleeves and stepped into the spirit of Pesach thanks to Chabad Youth NSW’s model matzah bakery, which ran over 40 hands-on workshops in the lead-up to the festival. “Our goal is to make Judaism come alive for every child,” said a Chabad Youth NSW spokesperson. “The model matzah bakery brings the message of Pesach out of the books and into the hearts and hands of the next generation.”
